4 Steps to Prevent and Treat Dry Winter Skin

4 Steps to Prevent and Treat Dry Winter Skin

1. Hydrate       The winter months can be drying to the skin. Frigid dry air outside along with dry heat from indoor heating can strip skin of moisture.Adding a humidifier to your home or a small desktop version to your office can add much needed moisture to the air.

It may be tempting to crank the temperature on your shower, but this can be drying to the skin. Limit the heat and duration to avoid stripping your body of natural oils and don’t forget to moisturize to lock in the hydration.

Don’t forget your 8 glasses of water a day. A warm glass of green or herbal tea is a great alternative on a cold day. My favorite tea we serve here at Laser Enhanced Therapies is Harney & Sons Hot Cinnamon Spice

2. Exfoliate       Dead skin cells can keep moisturizers from penetrating skin. Treat your skin to a Microdermabrasion post holiday  a non-chemical, non-invasive treatment that involves gently abrading the skin. It is used to maintain healthy skin as well as to treat skin damage from trauma, aging, or sun exposure. Between microdermabrasions, do some at home exfoliation with one our masks by Image Skincare (such as the Vital C Masque, Ageless Glycolic Masque, or the Clear Cell Salicylic Masque).

Alternate your an exfoliant along with a moisturizing cleanser such as Michelle’s Creamy Pumpkin Cleanser Loaded with vitamins and exfoliating enzymes, Pumpkin Fruit and Honey hydrate as they refine skin’s surface. Blue Green Algae is rich in minerals and antioxidants to fortify skin tissues and help soothe redness and irritation.

3. Did I mention…Moisturize!!!      Hyaluronic acid is a powerful humectant that will keep your skin dewy and ageless. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring polysaccharide (carbohydrate) in the human body. It’s present in large amounts in the spaces between skin cells, where it provides moisture, plumpness, firmness and suppleness to the skin. Unfortunatley the amount of Hyalronic acid can diminish with age. Since hyaluronic acid holds moisture well–holding up to 1,000 times its weight in water–it is a commonly used component in moisturizers. In these moisturizers, it functions not only to deliver water to the skin, but also to hold it there. As a large molecule, it doesn’t permeate deep into the skin, but instead stays near the surface where it moisturizes the skin surface layers. Try Ageless Total Pure Hyaluronic Filler. Unique and pure, this highly concentrated and botanically derived hyaluronic filler is infused with an apricot essential oil and potent antioxidant Vitamin E. Used topically, skin will feel pure hydration in just one application. Skin looks and feels younger instantly.

4. Protect      Sun Protection: SPF 15+ in low light months (October to February in the upper United States); SPF 28+ when the sun gets stronger. Use every single day as part of your routine, and reapply during prolonged periods of sun exposure as needed.
